The Tooth Fairy visits!!
Kaira finally lost her first tooth! It's been wiggly since around Christmas-time and finally wiggled it's way out. And after she lost the first one, number two followed closely behind just four days later.

School Easter Party
Kaira's class had an Easter party at school... they got to decorate pails (which they later used to hold their eggs during the egg hunt), and decorate cross magnets, and have fun snacks. Then they headed outside to hunt for Easter eggs. Each of the kids had 6 eggs with their name on them, so in the pictures you might be able to see them checking out the eggs to see if their name is on it.

More Easter
Then a couple days later, she got to go egg hunting all over again... this time with her best friend, Lokei. We were in Baton Rouge for the weekend visiting, and spent the night at Lokei's house, so the girls got to wake up together early in the morning and hunt easter eggs together.

Easter Baskets...

And pretty girls in pretty Easter dresses getting ready for church...
(We actually didn't plan for them to be in matching dresses, but it worked out that way. They thought it was cool.)

At the Zoo
While we were visiting in Baton Rouge, I took Kaira and Lokei to the zoo. They have a zoo train that goes around the perimeter of the zoo, and is a favorite of the girls... but I just discovered at this most recent visit that they also have a zoo tram that rides around inside the zoo, passing by all of the major animal exhibits. Was a nice break from the walking and the heat.

Relay for Life
I was on a relay team for the annual event for through the American Cancer Society. Besides keeping one team member on the track at all times, most of the teams would also set up concessions or booths of some sort to help raise additional money to add to the funds already raised prior to the event. Our team did face painting and animal balloons. We had originally planned a jump castle, but due to the weather and the last minute moving of the event indoors, we had to cancel that. So the animal balloons were my idea of something quick we could do at the last minute instead... and because it was my idea, I got stuck making the balloons. Turns out I am actually pretty good at it, and had a lot of fun doing it. Kaira had a blast at the event.... she loved the animal balloons, she was our first 'guinea pig' to get her face painted... and she even wanted to run laps for our team - 15 to be exact!! (they were small laps b/c we were indoors, but still).

Our first facepaint customer of the evening...

Blowing up balloons and showing off some of the stuff I made... (flower, snail, dog, rocking horse hat, swan, etc)

Team photo (w/ balloons, of course!)... Luminaries, each in honor of a different person who battled cancer... And a team favorite - the turtle balloons!

More T-ball fun
A couple pictures from a recent game...

Making Jewelry Kaira got a jewelry making kit for her birthday or Christmas that managed to get put on a shelf and forgotten for a while. She rediscovered it recently and begged to play with it. Her and I sat down for a couple hours one afternoon and strung together beads to make necklaces and bracelets. Here are some of the pictures of her working, and of us displaying the final products. We ended up with some pretty cool stuff.

Crawfish!
We went to a crawfish boil hosted by my school. Kaira's had crawfish meat before... but I'm not sure she's ever had to try to peel her own before. She was a little hesitant at first, but warmed up to the idea and started playing with her crawfish and peeling her own. Of course I had to help peel most of hers, but she ate close to as many as I did!

Kaira's New Class Book
Another installment of the Kindergarten classroom books... this one is a book of poems. They each got a poem or two to learn and illustrate. They actually did a recording of them reading their poems to go with the book. Very cute. (Click on the picture of the cover to see the rest of the book)

Disney on Ice
Disney on Ice came to Shreveport, and Kaira and I got tickets to go. It was a good show - the Incredibles decided to go on a family vacation to Disneyworld. While there, their old nemesis (or actually a robot copy, because he died at the end of the movie) Syndrome, took Mickey & Minnie hostage. The Incredibles suited up in their superhero costumes and battled Syndrome to save Disney. And many favorite Disney characters were worked into the plot - Cinderella, Snow White, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Alice (in Wonderland) as well as the very late rabbit, the Mad Hatter and TweetleDee & TweetleDum, Baloo (Jungle Book), the Pirates of the Caribbean crew... and many more. It was a great show. While there, we got cotton candy that came with a souvenir Incredibles mask and wrist bands, which we had fun playing with.

Karen's Stuff

Cadaver Ball - the med school equivalent of prom. It celebrates the end of freshman cadaver lab. It was a rare treat to take the night off, get all dressed up and hang out with friends.

On my way to another crawfish boil the day after Cadaver Ball. My hair, amazingly, still looked nice from the night before. The second crawfish boil was through a Surgery Interest group that I'm a member in, and was out of town a little ways at the family camp of an upperclassmen. Kaira opted out of eating crawfish for this one, but had fun playing with her soccer ball, football, and frisbee. One of the 2nd year students has a little girl who is also 6, and Kaira became fast friends with her. Even more interesting - I knew there was a second year student that lived across the street from me, but didn't know who it was... turns out it is this guy that has the 6 year old! Good to know Kaira will have a friend in the neighborhood that can come over to play sometimes.

Sutures
Practicing sutures on a banana... poor thing needed 10 stitches :)

Paintballing!
A group from my class decided to go paintballing one day to blow off some steam. We had a blast! I think this may become a regular event. A group pic of everyone who played... and a picture of me and my friend, Jacqueline, posing with our guns after a long day of crawling through forests, guarding castles, dodging enemy fire, and taking a few hits along the way (I had bruises the next day!)
